Walking in Dumfries & Galloway

Newark Farm, an ideal base for walking around Sanquhar, Upper Nithsdale, Dumfries and Galloway and the Southern Upland Way

Walking at Newark Farm

This beautiful part of Scotland is great walking country. The Southern Upland Way, Scotland’s coast to coast footpath of 212 miles from Portpatrick – Cockburnpath, actually passes through the farm, so there are few better places to stop and relax when walking across Southern Scotland.

There are many other less ambitious walk in the area and we have leaflets available. There are numerous local short walks available for walkers to readily enjoy the beautiful scenery of Upper Nithsdale, the Lowther Hills and the wider Dumfries and Galloway Region.

A walking festival is held each May in Sanquhar, with carefully planned and supervised walks specially chosen to show off the best of the stunning countryside.
