Cycling in Dumfries & Galloway
Road cycling, mountain biking and gravel riding around Newark Farm, Sanquhar, Upper Nithsdale and Dumfries and Galloway
Road Cycling
Dumfries and Galloway is internationally recognised for cycling, with a UCI bike region label – South of Scotland Enterprise. The county has over 450 miles of signposted cycle routes. In particular, the Kirkpatrick C2C, South of Scotland’s Coast to Coast cycling route, offers 250 miles of cycling from Stranraer to Eyemouth.

Mountain Biking
Newark Farm is close to the world famous 7stanes mountain biking centres. The cross-country and downhill trails at these centres are all-weather and can be ridden all year round.
7stanes Forest of Ae is only about 25 minutes’ drive away from our farm. There you will find a range of trails for all levels from beginners to elite riders as well as an extreme downhill section for the downhill enthusiast. Trails cover ground from forest road to single track, from gentle riding to tough rocky landscapes, jumps and technical obstacles.
In addition to the 7stanes trails, there are popular mountain biking routes at Drumlanrig Castle estate, which is only a few miles from the Farm.
Gravel Biking
Whether gravel biking on the trails at Drumlanrig or on a forest road, Dumfries and Galloway offers a great choice of gravel routes.
Most of these are within easy reach by car from Newark Farm and provide access to hidden corners of the county amid forests, fields, lochs and even seaside towns.
In May 2025, the Gralloch at Galloway Forest Park became the Britain’s first UCI Gravel World Series event and will be staged again 15-17 May 2026.
